Box Set CD of the Month - "Miles At The Fillmore"

Box Set CD of the Month
Miles Davis: "Miles At The Fillmore" 2014 (Columbia) 1970/2014

Released in March 26, 2014. Lightning in a bottle! 4 CDs of unedited, primarily unreleased music including 2+ hours of extended material & rarities. A massive moment for Miles Davis -- legendary live performances at both the Fillmore East (from June 17 to 20, 1970) and Fillmore West (April 11, 1970), during the early days of fusion (then called jazz-rock) -- presented here in their entirety for the first time ever!

Part of the record features Miles' work that appeared in Teo Macero-edited form on the "Miles Davis At Fillmore" 2-LP set (Columbia G 30038), released on October 28, 1970 -- but issued here without the Teo's edits, so that you can really hear the group take off in unbridled, Bitches Brew-like energy -- served up by a lineup that includes Steve Grossman on tenor and soprano sax, Chick Corea on Fender Rhodes, Keith Jarrett on organ, Dave Holland on bass, Jack DeJohnette on drums, and Airto on percussion and wooden flutes.

The set then also includes material recorded on April 11, 1970 at the Fillmore West – but all unissued tracks, and not the material that was on the "Black Beauty" album at all. These tracks feature a similar lineup, but without Keith Jarrett, on a few long tracks. The set separates out all the tunes with great clarity and better mastering than before, adding nothing less than 100 minutes to the Fillmore East set. Titles include "Directions", "The Mask", "It's About That Time", "Bitches Brew", "Spanish Key", "Sanctuary", "I Fall In Love Too Easily", "Footprints", "Paraphernalia", "Miles Runs The Voodoo Down", "Willie Nelson", and "The Theme".

Featuring: Miles Davis, trumpet; Steve Grossman, tenor sax, soprano sax; Chick Corea, electric piano (left channel); Keith Jarrett, organ, tambourine (right channel); Dave Holland, electric bass; Jack DeJohnette, drums; Airto Moreira, percussion, wood flutes, vocal effects.
Original Sessions Produced by Teo Macero
