CD of the Day - "Rita Reys sings Antonio Carlos Jobim"

CD of the Day
Rita Reys: "Sings Antonio Carlos Jobim" (Philips) 1981

Just got this 1996 CD reissue of Rita's memorable Jobim songbook, with 10 great tunes lushly orchestrated (a la Claus Ogerman) by Rogier van Otterloo, with the Pim Jacobs Quartet providing the impeccable rhythmic support to the top jazz singer ever born in the Netherlands.
Highlights: "How Insensitive" (drummer/percussionist Peter Ypma uses the triangle to great effect, sounding reminiscent of the way Henry Mancini often employed such instrument), "This Happy Madness" (with the sensational English lyrics added by Gene Lees), "Song of the Sabiá" and "Meditation."
Coincidently, Pim Jacobs, who was married to Rita for 36 years, died in 1996, at age 61.
Rita, born on December 21, 1924, is now 84.
