R.I.P.: Wayman Tisdale

Wayman Tisdale (born June 6, 1964, Tulsa/OK; died May 15 2009, Tulsa/OK)

The electric bassist Wayman Tisdale died yesterday in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He was 44; the cause of death was bone cancer. Tisdale had started his jazz career after a successful career in basketball. He was a three-time all-American basketball player at the University of Oklahoma, played on the gold-medal-winning 1984 United States Olympic basketballteam and was a highly respected 12-year veteran of the NBA (National Basketball Association). He recorded twelve albums under his name which both made the jazz as well as the R&B charts. He was influenced by Stanley Clarke but achieved a very own voice on his instrument.
