CD of the Day - "Manny Oquendo:

CD of the Day
Manny Oquendo & Libre: "On The Move" (Milestone) 1996

Recorded live on May 24, 1996 at Bimbo's 265 Club in San Francisco, produced by Todd Barkan, it's my personal favorite among many Manny Oquendo's delightful albums. 70 minutes of intoxicating grooves and fantastic solos, making it an irresistible ball. Manny's own montuno "Chaquilla Ideal" and the mambo version of Lester Young's "Lester Leaps In" are both massive tracks, showcasing Willie Rodriguez's infectious piano playing.
Also featuring: bassist Andy Gonzalez (who also served as Musical Director for the band and as co-producer of the album), vocalists Herman Olivera & Frankie Vazquez, conguero Roberto Carrero and trombonists Dan Reagan (lead), Angel "Papo" Vazquez (a former member of Dizzy Gillespie's United Nation Orchestra, Leonard Pollara & Wayne Wallace.
