Teacher Training Institutes

The International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE) has joined forces with MENC: The National Association for Music Education, and a host of industry partners to present two intensive 2 1/2 day Teacher Training Institutes. The institutes will be held June 14-16 at Ecker Hill Auditorium in Park City, Utah, and June 21-23 at the Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

The Park City, Utah Institute offers general sessions on learning and teaching jazz improvisation and using the internet to teach jazz history via the comprehensive musicianship model. The institute also offers break-out focused tracks for band, string orchestra, choral music, technology, and latin percussion. The all-star faculty includes Ruben Alvarez, Shelly Berg, Greg Carroll, Corey Christiansen, Kelly Eisenhour, Rick Schmunk, and Lesa Terry.

The Bethlehem, Pennsylvania Institute offers general sessions on learning and teaching jazz improvisation and using the internet to teach jazz history via the comprehensive musicianship model. The institute will also offer break-out focused tracks for piano, general music, band, choral music, technology, and Latin percussion. The all-star faculty includes Ruben Alvarez, Rene Boyer, Greg Carroll, Connaitre Miller, Tom Rudolph, Jeff Rupert, Neil Wetzel, and Skip Wilkins.

The Institute package is priced at $235 US. Current IAJE and MENC members can attend the program for $195 US. The fee includes all instruction, a comprehensive notebook and supplemental resource materials, continuing education unit documentation reflecting 20 contact hours, and a certificate of completion. Graduate college credit is available for an additional fee.
