Elliott Sharp with the Hessen Radio Symphony

Music always was a political force for him, even before the first Gulf War, guitarist and composer Elliott Sharp tells Hans-Jürgen Linke during rehearsals for a performance of his music played by the Symphony Orchestra of Hessen Radio ( Frankfurter Rundschau ). He is still angry about the war and cannot understand why mothers and fathers don't rebel against it. Besides being active as a guitarist he always worked as a composer and sees "genre distinctions between different types of music as mostly artificial. By the way, in this respect meanwhile we have higher thresholds in the USA than in Europe." In America his music was only once performed by a symphony orchestra. Next to the sound and the mathematical- constructive elements energy is of utmost importance for his music; something he learned from Coltrane and from European free jazz.
